Quintin Stephens |
Quintin Stephens - World Class Wheelchair Athlete
www.quintinforgold.com
My next door neighbor is Quintin Stephens, former U.S. Marine, now a world class wheelchair athlete.
Quintin wheels a grueling 6 miles on training days, doing it in the same manner as he speaks, with a power & clarity that come from deep faith.
Quintin inspires Vets who come home from Afghanistan & Iraq with horrible injuries. He helps them to dream, the truest healing.
Quintin's own dream is to forge a place for himself on the U.S. Paralympic Team that will compete in London, England in 2012. To do that he must qualify at the U.S. Paralympic Track & Field Trials in Tempe, Arizona in 2012. The U.S. trials will be held at Arizona State University.
To train and qualify for these U.S. Trials, Quintin must compete in several regional & national competitions taking place all over the United States this year and next year starting May 30, 2009.
Due to the present economy and a drop in funding for veteran programs, he doesn't quite have the means to go to these competitions. Hundreds of dollars are needed for Quintin's airfare, hotel room, entrance fees, and transportation. A modest donation of $50 will go a long way in assiting Quintin in his travel expenses. Donations can be made payable and mailed to: QUINTIN R. STEPHENS, 317 LOS SANTOS DR, GARLAND, TX 75043.
At the 2007 U.S. Paralympic Track & Field Championships, Quintin placed first in 5 events among T-51 athletes. Last year, Quintin won 5 gold medals at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games held in Omaha, Nebraska.
This year, the United States Olympic Committee reconsidered and reinstated the former F-51 Male Field events. The club throw and the discus, both F-51 field events, will be contested at the IPC Athletic World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2011. Hopefully, the same will take place for the T-51 track events also.
Your help will be deeply appreciated, as this may be Quintin's last chance to achieve his Olympic dream. Quintin can be quickly reached via telephone at 972-762-6447 or at the email link below. If there is no telephone answer, please leave a brief message on his answering service. Most likely, Quintin is out training and preparing for his upcoming events.
